Internet of Things El concepto detrás del Internet of Things , se mencionó por primera vez en 1999 , durante un discurso en la “Conferencia económica de Davos” por Bill Joy (cofundador de Sun Microsystems) al hablar sobre los seis tipos de redes e interacciones sobre Internet en el futuro cercano: “Web.6. […] is the Internet of sensors deployed in meshes networks with embedded machine intelligence in ordinary, daily life things” Bill Joy El nombre Internet of Things como tal, fue presentado por primera vez por Kevin Ashton (Auto-ID Center del MIT) de nuevo en 1999 una presentación titulada: “That ‘Internet of Things’ Thing. In the real world, things matter more that ideas” donde se trataba del origen de la información almacenada en Internet en aquel momento. De hecho, casi toda la información disponible en los años 90 era capturada (tecleada) por primera vez por humanos y trataba principalmente con ideas/conceptos. “We need to empower computers with their own means of gathering information, so they can see, hear and smell the world for themselves, in all its random glory […] technology enable computers to observe, identify and understand the world—without the limitations of human-entered data.” Bill Joy 3.1.1.3.
